High noon was set for the first match-up in the Tri-wizard tournament. Unfortunately, due to the late closure of the Yetihad because of a burst water main, both the Necro and Skaven had trouble travelling into the big smoke. To exacerbate matters, the ‘block gate’ saga caused an immediate vote for a confirmation of the rules for the independent mini-league. After much deliberation, finger-pointing, raised pints of hazy Jaipur, and ‘shhhhhs’, the budget rule was kept in place, and order could resume (for now!).
Line-ups:
- Rolando and the Warpstone Whiskers:
- 2 gutter runners (both skilled up with block)
- 3 Clanrat linemen (including wrestler Larry)
- 1 Blitzer
- 1 Rat Ogre (Rolando)
- The Gilded Sparrows:
- 3 Linemen
- 2 Blitzers
- 1 Thrower
- 1 Ogre
First Half Highlights

El G had settled into his seat, a bit too well! The rats acclimatized to the new surroundings after the slightly bumpy ride in their travel tin.
The ball had been left behind at the Yetihad, but El Golfo used his ingenuity to fashion a new one out of post-it notes (brought to collect phone numbers :).

The rats kicked off, and the ball landed just behind Andru the Ogre, who was blissfully unaware of this! The sparrows sped up the pitch to engage the rats and picked on the usual cannon fodder, and down went Lineman Phil.
Just as it was all looking good for El G, the classic bonehead struck struck (just after he had debated the pros and cons of bringing the ‘ big guy’ in any team 🙂

Despite the continued presence of Bonehead, El G recovered to sneak around ‘Not reliable’ Rolando (who would up his game for the remainder of the tournament), and Colin got on the scoreboard, making it 1-0 to the Imperials.

The Rats regrouped and got to work by picking the ball up speedily and dashing towards the end zone, only 2 turns left was it enough for them to force the score?

Despite Rolando ‘ Mr Reliable’ getting involved, the Rats turned up short and ran out of time 🙂

Second Half Highlights
El G would not budge from his ‘dug out’, so despite changing halves, the angles were very familiar for all involved. He would eventually get up for much need sustenance!

The rolling rat machine was now oiled nicely and working well. Rolando could only watch as Steve and Bob sped towards victory, though the new regulation ball was proving tricky to keep under control. it had a very unpredictable bounce!!

Rolando roars on his teammates, no animal savagery in sight! He was just a pleased teammate, but the blood bowl battle was taking a toll, and the sin bin was getting a bit crowded!

Steve and Bob dashed for glory. El C got very frustrated and seemed to have nowhere to turn.

El C offers to concede to a 1-0 defeat to speed up the game (slow according to El G ‘ its supposed to be complete in a lunch break’ ) El G is obviously used to such luxuries unfamiliar to the rest of the league!!
But wait , El C is encouraged to switch the play into reverse gear and go the long way round. Could it work?
